- Recommended average lengths of time for Art Therapy are:
- Short-term: 6 - 26 weeks
- Long-term: 12 - 24 months
Many people prefer to engage in therapy for longer periods.
Individual sessions are generally for one hour and group sessions are generally for one and a half to two hours, depending on the circumstances.
You will be offered an assessment session to discuss your needs and whether Art Therapy is likely to help you, before embarking on an agreed length of therapy.
No skill or experience of making art is required in order to benefit.
You will be in charge of what materials are used and how they are used. You will not be told what to do or how to do it although your therapist will support you and guide you if you are unfamiliar with the art materials. This is all part of the process of self-discovery and self-empowerment. It is the process of art making that is the key not the product.
Through the art activity creative connections may be made that can help you be more creative in all aspects of your life, which can lead to a greater sense of self-worth and purpose in life.
All client information and art work is treated confidentially and stored securely.
